People seek the Bradford Pear because of it's fat shape. It is called a pear because of the pear shaped head a mature trees branch structure forms. The old Bradford had too lateral of a branch structure and would often lose branches regularly under harsh Michigan ice conditions. The new Bradford has a more upright angle than the old Bradford. The Pear produces a large amount of white flowers in the spring and has a very glossy leaf.
The Cleveland Select Pear
The Cleveland Select Pear is a popular shade tree for the same reasons as the Bradford Pear. However the Cleveland Pear has a vertical branch structure as opposed to the Bradford's more horizontal shape.
